I’m usually one to play by the rules

However, playing by the rules only works if you intend for things to stay the same. When you want things to change you have to be willing to bend and sometimes even break the rules. Sometimes you even have to break your own rules to get out of stagnation and ruts.

However, when it comes to relationships who sets the playbook on rules? Is it something that one partner establishes? Is it something that should be established together?

At some point, I find myself asking the question when does someone else’s rules violate my comfort zone and boundaries? When is it okay to break an established rule in relationships? Is it ever okay?

As a creative, I sometimes find it challenging to stick to the rules. For example: One relationship partner may want to set an established time when everyone is off there cell phones and creates time to connect away from social media at night. This is overall not a bad rule. Except when for example a creative gets inspired with a burst of creativity in the middle of the night. The creatives routine might be to reach over grab there cell phone and get there thoughts out or do a quick voice recording so they can not just see the writing but capture the energy and essence of the creative moment.

In this instance should it be okay to break the rule? I can think of many times when I got inspired in the middle of the night. However, I wanted to honor my agreement not to be on my cell phone past a certain time. I literally wrestled with myself, lost sleep from obsessing over the possibility of losing my ideas and actually watching that fear come to past. IT’S SO FRUSTRATING!! 😫

Who’s happy or doesn’t notice at all because they are fucking sleep- Ahhh! Lol. I think you’re catching my drift.

On one hand I managed to avoid an argument with my partner because I played by their rule. I Did NOT avoid the argument with myself because that precious creative moment is now dead and gone.

What would you have done?
